NYFW Day 1….well technically it was Day 2 but due to weather and hair emergencies, this was my Day 1 and eventful is an understatement.
I spent most of my day at Style Fashion Week hosted at Gotham Hall. I was ushered in as media and then directed backstage where I realized later that I wasn’t supposed to be lol. I got to catch up with some of the models that would be taking the runway in the Uwi Twins show and grab a few street style photos between events.
First, Control Sector ripped the runway with a cohesive, modern, urban, yet neutral collection. Each piece is something that can be mixed and matched with other pieces not only from their line but the basic staples that we should all have in our closet. The pieces are also very light so they can carry on not only through the spring and summer months but early fall as well. Between shows, I took to the streets to catch a few attendees in their NYFW best and showing off their personal styles (photos in the video). I also took a sec to grab some pizza because I swear its the easiest thing to find in NYC when you’re in a rush…other than Starbucks lol. But anyway, I grabbed my seat in the upper level to watch the models I had just spoke with backstage take over the runway for Uwi Twins Fashion and it was definitely worth the wait.
The show first started with a video of the Uwi Twins speaking on their culture, their inspirations, backgrounds, and everything that lead up to this moment. The clip was followed by a traditional dance which was a great way to not only increase suspense but liven up the audience before the first look. The line not only stayed true to their culture but it was tailored perfectly for men and women. Black and white were the staple colors which kept everything clean and tied together. In some looks there were pops of color that added something special. I loved it.
Last, what’s fun without a couple cocktails? …Or water and assorted juices if you preferred. The Style Fashion Week reception area was exceptional and the backdrops of greenery added the perfect touch. There was nothing but lots of laughter and a good time, just the way it should be. This really set the tone for the rest of my stay in NYC and really prepared me to enjoy my time there and take over the city. Stay tuned for my Day 2 adventures, posting soon!
